War-date carte-de-visite of Brevet Brigadier General Allen Latham Anderson (1837-1910) with Hoag & Quick’s...Cincinnati, Ohio” backmark. Near Fine condition. Allen L. Anderson graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1859 and was serving in the Regular Army at the onset of the Civil War. He was advanced to Captain in the 5th United States Regular Infantry before being commissioned Colonel and commander of the 8th California Volunteer Infantry regiment. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "faithful and meritorious services". He resigned his Army commission in 1867, and became a successful civil engineer. He was the nephew of Brigadier General Robert Anderson of Fort Sumter fame, and the first cousin of Brevet General Nicholas L. Anderson.
