COL. GEORGE BOMFORD (1782-1848) Ordnance Chief and Inventor of the Columbiad Cannon. When the War of 1812 began, Bomford moved to the new Army Ordnance Department. He also attempted to standardize the army's field artillery. Partly printed Manuscript document on Ordinance Office letterhead: "You are hereby required to issue Capt. G. Porter, commanding Company A. 1 Arty at Fort Moultrie…such a number of old serviceable accoutrements, as may be necessary for the present service of his Company, Geo Bomford, Col. Of Ordnance…The above accoutrements are only intended for temporary service and will therefore be selected from the old stock on hand…" Dated Washington 1834, in Fine condition.
