BELCHER, Jonathan (1682-1757) was a merchant, businessman, and politician from the Province of Massachusetts Bay. He served for more than ten years as colonial governor of the British provinces of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and another ten as governor of New Jersey. Autograph Letter Signed, “J. Belcher”, 2pp. quarto, addressed to Captain Malbore, Boston, Massachusetts, APril 10, 1738, pertaining to a real estate transaction, and reads in part: “...I shall only say, if you are minded to purchase a fine estate for your family, I think you’d lay out your money in it to good advantage. It has the privelege of being in a town by the name of Mortlake & is joining to the town of Pomfret in Connecticut Colony...” About very good condition.
