CLARK, Charles (1811-1877) Following the secession of Mississippi in early 1861, Clark was appointed as a brigadier general in the Mississippi 1st Corps, a state militia organization that later entered the Confederate Army. He commanded the brigade at engagements in Kentucky and then a division under Leonidas Polk at the Battle of Shiloh, where he was slightly wounded. He was promoted to the rank of major general of Mississippi State Troops in 1863. Clark led a division at the Battle of Baton Rouge, where he was severely wounded and captured. He spent time as a prisoner of war before being released. Was Governor of Mississippi from November 16, 1863 until May 22, 1865.HARDEE, William (1815-1873) a career U.S. Army and Confederate States Army officer. For the U.S. Army, he served in the Second Seminole War and in the Mexican–American War, where he was captured and exchanged. In the American Civil War, he sided with the South and became a general. Hardee served in the Western Theater and quarreled sharply with two of his commanding officers, Braxton Bragg and John Bell Hood. He served in the Atlanta Campaign of 1864 and the Carolinas Campaign of 1865, where he surrendered with General Joseph E. Johnston to William Tecumseh Sherman in April.Document Signed “Approved, Chas. Clark, Brig. Gen., Cmdg” on the face of the document, and “Wm. Hardee” endorsing on the reverse. The document, February 1862, Hopkinsville Kentucky, originated by Brigade QM, C.s. Severson who requests $61,700 to build quarters in Hopkinsville.
