Manuscript Document Signed, 1p. oblong octavo, Centreville, Virginia, September 3, 1862, and reads "Priv. Wm. McCloud of 104 Regt. N.Y. Vol. Co G. has this day been paroled having taken oath not to bear arms against the Confederate States or in any way aid or assist the enemies of Confederate States until duly exchanged. By Order of Col. Flournoy, John Allan, Adjt. 6th Va. Cavalry. VG. On September 3rd, 1862 Centreville was on the fringe of the 2nd Manassas and Chantilly battlefields. The Federals were continuing pressure by the Army of Northern Virginia abandoned Centreville on September 1st and moved back towards the Washington defenses. The 104th New York served under Brigadier General A. Duryea in the 1st Brigade. The 6th Virginia Cavalry served under JEB Stuart in his Cavalry Division with Colonel Thomas S. Flournoy in command.
