War-date Autograph Letter Signed by Robert Olin Peatross, (1835-1905) as “Capt. Caroline Grays” 1pp. quarto, Camp Marlboro Point, June 14, 1861, addressed to Col. D. Ruggles, and reads in part: “...Enclosed you will ifnd receipts for Ordnance Stores viz 1000 ball cartridges with caps. Requistion made 31st May 1861. I received no ammunition at that time or at any period subsequent...” Fine condition. The North Carolina Grays, now Company I of the Sixth North Carolina State Troops, joined their new comrades at Camp Alamance, in Company Shops, N. C. (present day Burlington) for training. Stopping in Raleigh, on their way to the seat of war in Virginia, they were called on to escort the body of recently deceased N. C. Governor John B. Ellis
