RIPLEY, Roswell Sabine (1823-1887) was an officer in the United States Army during the Mexican-American War and, despite being Northern-born, a brigadier general in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War Autograph Letter Signed "R.S. Ripley", 2-pages. Datelined; Hd. Qrs Fort Sumter, June 22, 1861. In full, "Colonel, I will endeavor to have the Planter at Castle Pickney this afternoon at two oclock to take in board ... you require."
