MIDDLETON, HENRY. Exceedingly Rare Signature of the President of the Continental Congress. April 29, 1775, £20, Signed By Henry Middleton, Choice Very Fine. An exceptionally rare issue, this note also having been signed "Henry Middleton" who would also become the President of the Continental Congress. Bold in overall eye appeal, all print being clear and fully readable. Trimmed into the upper right, some reinforcement and repair paper in the upper and lower right corners, some additional archival reinforcement along the blank left margin and backed with contemporary laid paper. All four signatures and the date remain in bold brown ink, the signature of Henry Middleton measuring a large 3" across, the largest of all of the signers. (As the President of the Continental Congress, many today debate that in his position, he was actually acting as the President of the United States, and should be considered as in history such!) A tremendous rarity, certainly among the Finest Known of the issue. The only collectable examples of the signature of Henry Middleton are those found on this exceedingly rare South Carolina currency issue.
