An Exceptional Presentation, 11-1/2" x 14" with gold imprinted titled "The World of Phineas T. Barnum". The clam shell folded box has silk covers housing the eight separate folders, each with the albumen photo. The printed certificate provides the details, "I hereby certify, as a trustee of the Frederick Hill Merserve Collection, that there are 5,000 numbered examples of this portfolio of which this is No. 1171, and that the eight contact prints herein have been made from the original glass negatives in the collection." It is then ink signed, Dorothy Merserve Kunhardt. Photographs include: Chang and Eng, The Siamese Twins Mrs. Myers, The Bearded Lady Isaac Sprague, The Living Skeleton Tom Thumb and his wife Lavinia Jane Campbell, The Fat Lady James Murphy, The Irish Giant Anna Swan and The Lilliputian King, P.T. Barnum and Ernestine de Faiber. There is an 8pp folder, 1977, by Time Life explaining the uniqueness of the presentation.
