A complete and authentic issue of the Gentleman’s Magazine, November 1776, 48pp., disbound, fine. From the interior, there are several letters/reports regarding the fall of New York City. As example, a 2-1/2 columns letter signed in type by W. Howe to Lord George Germaine. In small part, “I have the satisfaction to inform your lordship of his Majesty’s troops being in possesion of New York ...The Rebels had troops in their works round Kepps Bay ... became a secondsary object of their care ... The enemy having evacuated New York soon after the army landed ... The prisoners made in the course of this day were 20 officers and 300 men ...The position of the Kings army took on the 15th in the evening was with the right to Hoen’s Hook ... The enemy’s loss is not ascertained; but from the accounts of deserters it is agreed that they had not less than 300 killed and wounded, and among thema a Colonel and a Major killed. ...” Then in a separate, there is a 3/4 column W. Howe declaration offering a British concession. In part, “DECLARATION, Although the Congress whom the misguided Americans suffer to direct their opposition to a reëstablishment of the constitutional Government of these Provinces, have disavowed every purpose of reconciliation not consonant with their extravagant and inadmissible claim of Independency, the King' s Commissioners think fit to declare that they are equally desirous to confer with his Majesty' s well-affected subjects, upon the means of restoring the publick tranquillity, and establishing a permanent Union with every Colony, as a part of the British Empire. ....
