Document Signed by future KIA Colonel, “Official, J(ulius) P(eter) Garesche Asst. Adjt. Gen.” who on 5/14/1861, was commissioned into US Regular Army Adjutant Gen'l Dept. and was Killed on 12/31/1862 at Murfreesboro, Tn. He signs at the bottom of General Orders #21, September 22, 1859 regarding Court-Martials, VG. Brig. Gen. William Hazen, describes the scene in Annals of the Army of the Cumberland, “I saw but a headless trunk: an eddy of crimson foam had issued where the head should be. I at once recognized his figure, it lay so naturally, his right hand across his breast.
