ELLSWORTH, Oliver(1745-1807) Great Architect of U.S. Constitution, responsible for bi-cameral legislature for the United States (House of Representatives and Senate), credited with creating the term "The United States", and referred to by John Adams as "The strongest pillar in the Washington Administration!" Ellsworth succeeded John Jay to become Second Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, and was Minister to France. Document Signed, January 30, 1776, "O; Ellsworth," on pay order "Pay Major John Chester, Forty Nine pounds, Ten Shilling & Seven Pence for Arms & clothing lost by Soldiers in his Company in Charleston Fight ...." On the verso bears the Autograph Note Signed, April 7, 1776, "John Chester," who acknowledges receipt of the monies. Fine. The Battle of Bunker Hill took place on June 17, 1775 on the Charleston Peninsula and Major John Chester led his Wethersfield Company at that battle, now referred to as the Battle of Bunker Hill.
