A complete and authentic issue of the New York Times, December 29, 1936. In the Sports section is the three column photo "Jesse Owens And the Horse He beat With Aide of a Handicap." HAVANA, Dec. 26. -- Before a wildly enthusiastic crowd of some 3,000 persons in Tropical Stadium today, Jesse Owens, in his initial professional appearance as a runner, sprinted 100 yards in competition with a racehorse. Owens covered the distance in 9.9 seconds and crossed the finish line approximately twenty yards ahead of the thoroughbred.
