Booklet, "John Brown's Expedition Reviewed in a Letter from Rev. Theodore Parker, at Rome, to Francis Jackson, Boston", 1860, Boston, Published by Fraternity, 20pp, plus separate cover, covers tanned, interior very good. Parker sets down five points regarding slavery which includes #1 A man held against his will as a slave has a natural right to kill everyone who seeks to prevent his enjoyment of liberty."...#2 It may be the natural duty of the slave to develop this natural right in a practical manner, and actually kill all those who seek to prevent his enjoyment of liberty. ... later he comments on John Brown, "Brown will die, I think, like a martyr, and also like a saint. His noble demeanor, his unflinching bravery, his gentleness, his calm ...Let the American State hang his body and the American Church damn his soul; still the blessings of such as are ready to perish will fall on him and the Perfect God will take him home. The road to heaven is as short from the gallows as from the throne; perhaps also as easy."
