One page ALS: "Burkesville, December 5, 1814, William Jones, Sir, Should any marines be wanted you I hope will have me transferred into that service. My friends in Congress will state to you my standing as an officer in the land service your attention to the above will confer a favour on Yours, D.D. McNair, Capt, 28th Infy." 8x 9½", right edge wear, 2½" clean tear to center of page. William Jones became Secretary of the Navy in January 1814. During much of 1813 and into 1814, Jones also served as acting Secretary of the Treasury. Very Good.
