Nathaniel P. Langford was known for a variety of accomplishments, most notable of which was his involvement in Montana gold fields and his involvement in the Montana Territorial Government. His work with Montana gold fields began in 1862 when he was a member of the Northern overland Expedition. After departing from Saint Paul, the group eventually settled in the Grasshopper Creek gold fields. There they established freight companies and other successful businesses. Following the formal establishment of Montana in 1864, Langford was appointed Collector of Internal Revenues and National Bank Examiner. Langford can also be credited for taking on a major role in establishing Yellowstone National Park. This Signed Document is a Montana Territory bond certificate that was issued to Langford on June 1, 1869..
