Recruiting broadside for Robert Grant's 'Calcium Light Sharpshooters', 1p. 21"x28", printed by Purcell & Dutton, Steam Job Printers and Engravers, New York, c. 1861-62 as the 102nd New York Infantry was organized between November 1861 and April 1862, and the Calcium Light Sharpshooters were designated its Company E. This unit was engaged at Cedar Mountain, Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and Lookout Mountain. This wonderful broadside reads in most part: "...The Best Regiment Yet! The Union of the States for the Sake of the Union. 'Then Conquer we must, for our Cause it is just, And this be our Motto: In God is our Trust.' The Calcium Light! Sharp-Shooters! This Regiment, under command of Colonel Robert Grant Is now being organized for the United States service by special order of the War Department. The Uniform, the Pay, and the Rations are to be the same as in The Regular Army....RECRUITS immediately forward to the Camp of Instruction at Scarsdale Regimental Headquarters, 400 Broome Street, New York..." With list of recruiting offices. Some paperloss at fold intersections, repairs, else about VG.
