Revolutionary War-dated Receipt, December 23, 1779, Philadelphia, (PA), 4.5" x 6.5", Choice Fine. "Please to pay Mr. Manuel Eyre one hundred and fifty-eight Pounds twelve Shillings and sixpence for 423 feet scantling at 7/6 per foot for State-House. Signed by two Committee of Assemblymen and endorsed by Mr. Eyre at bottom left to show receipt of the referenced sum. Scantling was a small timber used in construction; the State-House was the common reference to the building we now know as Independence Hall.
