Stanly” 3p. folio, December 20., 1848, Newbern, North Carolina, with integral leaf addressed to Benjamin Borden of Handcock Creek, with manuscript annotation at bottom left corner “By boy George”, this slave carried letter reads in part: “...I send by your boy a Statement of your claims against Mr. Edwin D. Thorpe for monies which you have paid as his surety...The detention of your servant was unavoidable...I could not...furnish the statement until night...” Fine.
