June 25, 1851, Slave Case Petition to the Texas Supreme Court, Harrison, TX, Extremely Fine. Manuscript Document, 4 pages, ranging from 5.5" x 7" to 12.5" x 7". In a case assessing the value of slaves, Wiley Pridgen submits a petition to the Texas Supreme Court to reconsider a verdict against him. Pridgen argues that a number of errors had been committed in the instructions to the Jury, including: "... the court erred... in refusing to charge the jury that... the plaintiff is only entitled to recover the value of the Negro at the time of conversion... and that amount of money which was due to the defendant for which the said Negro was pledged... which was unpaid may be deducted... from the amount they shall find [for the plaintiff]." Written on white paper with black ink. Papers are trimmed, folded, and connected with a brass brad. Otherwise, documents are unaffected.
