December 16, 1857, Speech by Hon. J.S. Green, of Missouri.: "THE CONSTITUTION OF KANSAS," Printed at the Congressional Globe Office, Washington, D.C., Very Fine. Uncut, untrimmed 14-page pamphlet--a large signature sheet, folded to 9" x 5.75". Senator Green of Missouri complains that the debate on the admission of Kansas into the Union was begun without any "executive recommendation" by the President, and that Senator Douglas's speech the preceding week was designed to "prejudice" the attitudes of the Kansas voters who were to vote in the coming week. The pamphlet includes a brief, pointed exchange between Sens. Douglas and Green. Fascinating content! Very minor wear to sheet. Brown, oval stamp of the New Jersey Historical Society in the upper right hand corner.
