May 5, 1858, Lawsuit to Recover Expenses for Slave Upkeep, Extremely Fine. Manuscript Document on pale blue, lined paper, trimmed to 12.25" x 8", 4 pages, (no state identified but probably Texas as this legal document was part of a series of manuscripts from Texas). Lawsuit whereby the son of the deceased father who owned the estate seeks to recover expenses he claims to have incurred in the estate's upkeep, including stating that: "He fed, clothed, paid the physician's bill, and defrayed all the expenses of the negroes [sic], vis, 10, of said estate... paid all taxes and other charges and expenses thereof of the value of $250 per annum... in the aggregate $3,300." Three small holes have been punched along the tops of the pages, originally for filing purposes. Text and lines are clear and unfaded.
