c. 1870, Tintype of Two Musicians--One is a Black Guitar Player, Choice Extremely Fine. This tintype is displayed in a decorated, 3.75" x 3.25", wooden composition case with original clasp. Once opened, the left-hand side is lined with red velvet, helping protect the tintype. Displayed behind a layer of glass and a scalloped gilt-framed border, this tintype is in amazing condition. Depicting two musicians, a man seated in wicker chair, holding a horn, and a man standing behind him strumming a guitar. Both are dressed in suits and colored shirts, both have mustaches and slicked-down hair, but the man strumming the guitar appears to be a light-skinned Black man, wearing a bow tie and stiff white collar. He looks off to his left, and his face is slightly blurred, but his slight smile is distinct, as are his broad nose and features. The tintype is in wonderful condition, with only a few imperfections and spots in the emulsion. The case has age-toning with some of the exterior layer being chipped away, and the top two corners have separated--but can be very easily repaired. Very scarce image!
