Autograph Document Signed, 1p. quarto, Engineer Department, Washington, November 28, 1844, with integral leaf addressed to Capt. J.K.F. Mansfield in Savannah, Georgia, Free Franked. This “Engineer Order No. 10” reads “ Capt. R.E. Lee, of the Corps of Engineers, will report to Washington as soon as he can draw his operations at New York to a close for the season; and will report himself for temporary duty as assistant to the Chief Engineer. All orders and instructions issued from this office, and signed by him, by order, as assistant, will be respected and obeyed accordingly. He will leave the public property now in his change under such care and supervision as well, at the smallest expense, secure its preservation during the suspension of work...” Fine.
