Manuscript Document Signed, 2p. quarto, September 12, 1861, Quitman, Clark County, Mississippi, reads in part: “...Wm. J. Mitchell has been confined in jail in Clark County for more than six months as a witness on the part of the state in a case of a house burning, not being a ble to give security not long since he broke jail and was indicted for an escape...which he plead guilty...his bond for appearance as a witness reduced so that he can now give bond of his imprisonment for escape is released. We should be pleased if you would release the Imprisonment for the escapee as he has an aged mother depending on his labour for support...” VG. Unusual.
