Headquarters, Suffolk, May 11,1862, A period copy, likely retained for Loring’s records, of an order issued to Col. F.H. Archer, in part:”…order your command to concentrate so as to reach Zuni or some point near it, to form a Junction with the command of Col. Tomlin, now at Zuni, with the least possible delay. “Save all the property you can, destroy the balance and nail your flags to their staffs. Burn and destroy all bridges in your march to Zuni, none after that except the bridge across Broadwater River. Also included with the lot is the envelope in which Archer received the order, addressed to “Col. F.H. Archer, Col. Commanding forces at Broadwater Bridge “ Both letter and envelope are in very good condition.
