MAGRUDER, John Bankhead (1810-1871) Confederate general whose forces in 1862, became the right wing of the Army of Northern Virginia. He was then appointed to the Trans-Mississippi Department, and later was given the District of Texas. He recaptured Galveston, January 1, 1863.Autograph Letter Signed, “J. Bankhead Magruder”, 1p. octavo, New York, October 10, 1867, it reads “I did not receive any letter from you, making an enquiry but only letters asking an answer to some enquiry I know not what. If you will let me know what you desire, I will take pleasure in answering you...” Mounted by strip at left margin, else VG.
