Autograph Letter Signed by Henry Wright, 5th Virginia Infantry, 2p. quarto, Camp Winder, Caroline Co. Virginia, April 9, 1863, and reads in part: "…there is considerable complaing in camp five out of the seven in our mess reported scik this morning. The Dr. thought Furr was taking the fever but he is better this evening…We see the Yankee balloon up almost every day. The court of inquiry on Liuet. Carsons case has been in session for several days to see whether he is worthy of promotion. The officer next in command has been doing his utmost to get the appointment and has been guilty (I fear) of perjury in his testimony. He is rendering himself very unpopular with the company. There is another case on hand which I expect will go pretty hard. The case of Arehart for smuggling and selling liquor….I have no doubt it will go very hard with him as he has been engaged in the business so long our Co. has been searched three or four times since I have been here and I was determined there should be a stop put to it so I just dropped the General a polite note signed Private stating where the liquor could be found, it was but a few minutes until the officer had it in possession although a great proportion was already sold. I understand he blames me for informing on him if he tells me so, I will own right up. Almost every member in the company will back me, he has been in the guard house ever since…We have had preaching every night that the weather will permit…I expect sacrament will be administered on next Sabbath. Our Regiment goes on picket tomorrow…" Fine.
