Isaac Shelby and reads in part: ‘...I have investigated the matter as you requested and am satisfied taht the cattle were taken by some men of Genl. Dibiell’s brigade most likely under the orders of Capt. M.H. Clift ACS. I suggest to you as the simplest way of settling the matter that you direct Capt Clift to send me rects...and I will forward him regular invoices.
