COCKRELL, Francis Marion (1834-1915) Commanded a Missouri brigade at Vicksburg, where he was captured and paroled. Appointed Brig. General, and led a brigade during the Atlanta campaign. Severely wounded at Franklin, November 30, 1864. ALS 1p. 4to., Washington, D.C. May 5, 1887 Cockrell writes a lady in Woodbury, N.J. , responding to her request for a written Civil War Order:"….I wish I had some copies of orders to send you. I have none, however…I was Captain for a year or more, then Lt. Colonel for a short time, then Colonel for a year or more, then Brigadier General…" Very good to near fine.
