COCKRELL, Francis Marion (1834-1915) Commanded a Missouri brigade at Vicksburg, where he was captured and paroled. Appointed Brig. General, and led a brigade during the Atlanta campaign. Severely wounded at Franklin, November 30, 1864. ALS, 1p. 4to.,Washington, D.C., April 1, 1881, to an Honorable J.M. Dalzell, in part:"…I have just conferred with Senator Sherman , who seems deeply interested in your success and in securing a suitable place for you. It will give me pleasure to ender any assistance in my power. Always glad to serve you. Wishing you peace, success, prosperity, and Happiness…" VG.
