EVERETT, Edward (1794-1865) Secretary of State. He made the Gettysburg oration at the time of the dedication of the National Cemetery and Lincoln made his famous address. Autograph Letter Signed, “Edward Everett” 1p. quarto, November 20, 1838, addressed to Attorney General Austin, and reads “The course suggested by you in your report on the Requisition from the Governor of New York for the delivery of Gurney & Phillips seems to me highly judicious. I accordingly enclose you the warrants, & will thank you to transmit them to the District Attorney at New Bedford, with proper directions to retain them, should circumstances, not here known, come to his knowledge, making it improper that they should be executed...” Mounted, else Fine.
