Autograph Letter Signed, 4p. octavo, Central City, July 8, 1861, and reads in part: “...I told him that I had no chance tom come now for all the California teams had started and that I though I could do better by staying here this summer...we hada fourth of July celebration we had a great many union speeches on the occassion...give my respects to all inquiring democrats and nobody else...” VG.
