A war-date Union soldier's, 4pp. 8vo., letter written in ink and pencil by Pvt. Wallace Hobert, Co. G, 7th Ohio Vols., Charlestown, Va., Oct. 20, 1861 to his cousin concerning doing duty along the Kanawha River and of the variety local neighbors, reading, in part: "…I seat myself on this rock mountain…above the confusion of the camp…I arrived here last Thursday…and…we found the 7 regiment to which I belong…we are encamped about 2 miles above Charlestown on the Kanawha river to guard it…there is so much confusion I can not keep my mind on it…there is secesh here but they keep cool as long as we are around. Snakes & nigers are plenty…". Some toning, else very good.
