A war-date Union soldier's, 2pp. 4to., partial letter written in ink by Pvt. George Adams, New Haven, Ky., Jan. 10, 63 to his father concerning chasing after Confederate guerrilla John H. Morgan, reading, in part: "…I will just give you a short story of chase after the noted rebel Morgan. On the 29th day of last month while…at Campbell's we received marching orders…and at 6 we were ordered to strike tents and pack knapsacks which was done in quick time…at seven we started for Lebanon. Arrived there at about 4 in the morning marching some 20 miles that night…that night we had to lay on our arms till day light as we were expecting an attack on this place…Morgan [was] encamped about seven miles from this place…the next evening we were ordered to have…one days rations ready for marching, and about 7 o'clock New Years Eve we started after him with some six Regiments of Infantry and Several Cavalry Regs…we marched out to a place called New Market…some five miles from Lebanon and there the Cavalry reported Morgan to be encamping at the foot of…Mundrues hill. It is a very long crooked hill and would be a good place to make a stand. We was placed in battle line that night and layed there till four o'clock in the morning and then we made some coffee and started as it was…". Some toning, else very good.
