Autograph Letter Signed "J.W. Rockhold," 91st Ohio Officer, April 13, 1863, Camp Reynolds, Kanawha Falls, Virginia. The letter describes a "young lady who had entered Fayetteville in Yankee uniform and past for one of the Col. Crook guards that had been taken prisoner at Antietam last Summer. But she was soon detected as a bogus soldier - that she had entered our camps as a spy. She was quite intelligent and very handsome, but she would give no information about the rebels." Letter has original folds, and a small hole near the center, but is else very well preserved. Rockhold served as a sergeant at the time the letter was dated, later rising to the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
