A great war-date CDV depicting Captain Charles C. Doten seated in his regulation uniform and holding his slouch hat. Published by A. H. Locke, Plymouth, Mass. with a green three-cent tax stamp on the verso with his ink signature by Doten at the top of the card: "Chas. C. Doten, Capt. 38th Mass. Inf.". Excellent condition with deep, rich tones…PLUS; a partly-printed war-date pass 1p. 4 1/4" x 6 1/4", Chief Quartermaster's Office, Dept. of the Gulf, New Orleans, May 19, 1863 being Doten's pass home after being discharged for disability, read, in full: "Captain Powell commanding Steam ship 'United States' will give Capt. Chas. C. Doten & servant except subsistence from New Orleans, to New York…". Minor soiling, else very good. Thus closed the military career of a Massachusetts Minute Man.
