A nice war-date manuscript Union circular 1. 4to., issued by Brig. Gen. Frank Wheaton, "Head Quarters, 2nd Div. 6th Corps, June 28, 1864 to the regimental commanders in his brigade, reading, in part: "Brigade Commanders will place the camps of their regiments sufficiently in rear of the rifle pits…leave a space of at least 30 feet between the tents and the line of pits. Fresh earth will be thrown in the present sinks every morning…after Reveille and new ones dug as often as may be necessary. The greatest attention will be paid to the burial of all offal. The refuse of Co. kitchens will be buried in front of the rifle pits…report any neglect of this order…". Toned with archival repairs to the folds, else very good.
