PATRICK, Marsena (1811-1888) Federal general who commanded at 2nd Bull Run, Chantilly and Antietam. War dated ALS 1p.8vo., Office of the Provost Marshall General, Armies operating against Richmond, July 23, 1864, to a Lt. Col. M.R. Morgan, Chief of Commissary, concerning the difference between Public business, which fell under the control of the Commissary, and Private business, which was to be regulated by the Provost department, in part: "…Whatever is furnished to the hospitals, or for issue, or for other public use, YOU CONTROL and regulate as you think proper. Sales to individuals come under the head of Trade and belong to the Provost Department, under General Orders and Trade Regulations…. Very Good.
