A good war-date Union soldier's, 2pp. 4to., letter written in ink by Corp. William A. Barrows, Co. K, 33rd Mass. Vols., Kingston, Ga., July 11, 1864 to his parents concerning his wound and of the news coming from the front, reading, in part: "…I am well. My wounds are doing well…I shall be able to go about of doors upon my crutches in a few days…I have not heard a word from the Regt since I have been here…our troops are advancing slowly. Wounded from the front are saying things are working favorably for our side. Also that the Reb prisoners reprise their army as being worn out and very much disheartened. Our men are in good spirits and get plenty of rations…it is reported in the papers that Gen'l. Hooker was killed in a late fight which is untrue. Old Joe is all right. He is our highest trump…this is going to be a general hospital. The surgeon in charge says he is awaiting orders to furlough men…I shall try and get one as soon as I am able to travel…it is a long journey and a pretty expensive one although I can get half fare on Gov't. transportation…". Barrows enlisted in 1862 and was wounded during the battle of Dalton, Georgia during Sherman's Atlanta campaign. He recovered from his wound and was mustered out of service on July 3, 1865. Light soiling, else very good.
