c. 1864 New York "Draft Meeting" Broadside, Choice Extremely Fine. 11.5" x 9." A wonderful broadside calling for a response to the $20,000 bounty for new soldiers and payments due those veterans willing to re-enlist in the 93rd NY Volunteers Ð a three year regiment that was mustered into service at Albany between October 1861 and January 1862. Except for some light mailing folds, this broadside is in excellent condition. The 93d, known as the "Morgan Rifles," with 998 members, served with distinction in numerous campaigns. It was present at the siege of Yorktown; fought at Lee's Mills, Williamsburg and in the Seven Days' battles; and upon the return from the Peninsula was present at Antietam and Fredericksburg. As detailed in the Civil War Database (a MARVELOUS research tool!), in the opening of the Wilderness campaign, the regiment, of which a large proportion had reenlistedÉ "showed its fighting mettle where it lost 258 killed or wounded out of 433 engaged. It was constantly in action during the battlesÉ" The regiment remained at Petersburg until the end of the siege and constantly displayed such gallantry in action and reliability in the performance of every duty that it well deserved the reputation won as an unusually well trained, efficient command and as a "fighting regiment." A fabulous display piece!
