SLOCUM, Henry (1827-1894) Entered the Union Army as colonel of the Twenty-eighth New York Volunteers in May 1861; promoted to major general and resigned his commission September 28, 1865, and settled in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he continued the practice of law; served in Congress from 1869-73 and then from 1883-85.Autograph Letter Signed, “H.W. Slocum” 1p. octavo, on his Brooklyn stationary, October 12, 1891, addressed to Mr. Mason and reads in part: “...I never heard of an order to attack Lee at Williamsport just before he crossed the river...nor of the Council of War on the subject.
