An unusual item, a store button card from around the time of the Civil War, bearing the trade name :"Mode de Paris" on the top , with the card's original full complement of 24 United States military buttons. These buttons are the smaller buttons of the" plain shield eagle" variety commonly encountered as vest and sleeve buttons of American infantry uniforms of the period. The number "42" in period ink in the upper right corner of the card is possibly the price charged for the buttons, which may have been sold to soldiers who were required to replace their own buttons when they were detached from their uniform. To the writer, these buttons appear to be identical to those of the civil war, but since he is not an expert in such matters, he can only say that they are from around that period and leave the rest to the more knowledgeable button collector. In any event, this is the first time the writer has encountered a card of this sort still bearing all of its original buttons, and we assume that full store cards of this type must be quite scarce. A few buttons at the bottom of the card are beginning to show some wear, otherwise they are in very good condition .
