Autograph Letter Signed,”Edwin C. Fowler” 2p. quarto, Baltimore, Maryland, July 13, 1860, and reads in part: “...Every thing is quiet in the City, no more Conventions and every thing in favour of Bell & Evertee but as far as I am concerned I would vote for Mr. Lincoln if my vote here could do him any good, but, I think while I am here I will vote for Bell & E. because it will be to the advantage of Mr. Lincoln if Bell & Everett carry this state, and why because I do not think Bell can get all the Southern States and if he get this, he will take so much from the Democrats, Messrs. Breckenridge & Law, and the Ticket will be split here in the south, so that Mr. Lincoln will be elected, Lincoln will get all the or nearly all the now Slave holding States, and this will be sufficient to elect him, and to tell the truth I am decidedly in favor of Lincoln, and if I work the thing right it may prove to my advantage, though I will keep Shady on that point...” VG.
