He is a different man than I though. It was my mind that when the worse came he would put an end to his own existence by some violent means...If [President] Madison & Co. should be transported to Elba to be companions of Bona and the monkeys, I think it would be a fortunate circumstance...If they should happen to sink to Pluto’s region before they arrived in port, I should not moan...” About VG.
