A great antebellum Pennsylvania legislator's, 1p. 4to., letter written in ink by Representative Thomas Nicholson, Harrisburg, Pa., Feb. 25, 1845 to a certain Mr. George Dawson concerning the fear that the appropriation of Texas will result in war, reading, in part: "… The news from Washington is of a gloomy character. It is now feared that Texas will be annexed in a few days. Polk's presence has had a considerable affect in enlightening senators as to their duty. If there is a war with Mexico & England…it would be fair that the party which brought it about should do the fighting. This we could not provide for and must take our share of the fighting as well as of the sin and disgrace…for soon…it will overtake us. The House has not agreed to a day for final adjournment…". The original postal used free franked transmittal leaf remains attached. Some spotting, else very good.
