MORSE, Samuel F.B. (1791-1872) American inventor in telegraphy, inventor of Morse Code and sent the first wire message ‘What hath God wrought!’ Autograph Letter Signed, "Saml. F.B. Morse" 2p octavo, Harrison, New Jersey, September 20, 1866 to his brother R.C. Morse consisting of family news. The letter reads in part: "...Before receiving your letter I received a visit from Mr. Pratt, the present superintendent of the Charlestown Sabbath school, and communicate all that I knew of the origin of the school. I referred him to dr. Todd of Pittsfield, as the man who knows more of the early history of the school than myself or brother Finely...A letter just rec'd from Mr. Lind & Susan speak of their health, and E. is quite encouraged having made good crops, and paid off a good portion of his indebtedness. He has yet work before him. He has great energy but I fear he may break down in his health; unless he can get some respite..." Bottom margin torn and missing a line or two of text, about VG.
