Dated 1789, Scrimshaw Decorated Powder Horn, Choice Fine. An exceedingly rare example of an ornate American made powder horn, which mentions both the owner's name, as well as that of the engraver. In this instance the decoration is attributed on the horn itself to "Job Touusley". Along with numerous engraved decorations including such designs as: a Male Lion, Bear, Deer, Hunting Dog, Mountain Lion, Wolf, plus flowers and foliage. The inscription reads: "JOHN WILEY - His powder Horn in The year of 1789 made by Job Touusley". There is wonderful actual even wear to the horn and a few minor nicks and edge chips from true use. A few nail brads are missing, a nice crack in the horn (as used) at the cap end. Likely made in the Pennsylvania or Virginia region, as suggested by the overall design. The details and images are outstanding. Powder horns with both the name of the owner and that of the maker are exceedingly rare and highly prized by collectors.
