c. 1846, Original Metal Canteen with Painted "Star" and "23," Choice Fine. From the Militia to Civil War era, round metal canteen, 5" in diameter, 2" thick, with an original metal clip and carrying strap hoops, absent its cap or cork. Covered with green and yellow paint, lightly chipped in places, with some typical minor dents from actual usage. A large yellow star on the front is chipped. The number "23" is painted in yellow, on the clip on the back. We believe that this canteen was likely used by a "23rd" Regiment. It has fully original paint with more than 97% of the original paint still remaining! An important and historic Early American Military collectable.
