c. 1800, "The Apparition of Samuel Raised by the Witch of Endor at the request of King Saul" by Amos Doolittle, Very Fine. 16" x 9.5, pulled from a copy of the American edition of Maynard's "Josephus." Trimmed along the left edge and lightly dampstained, with "ghosts" of the text visible where the ink burned softly into the paper. Doolittle was a Minuteman, a mapmaker, and a famous American engraver of the late 1700s and early 1800s whose prints are eagerly sought-after today. This attractive print is suitable for framing and display.
